RuffRuff Selling Periods

App isn't working

What to check when messages or the cart button are not controlled

If product messages or cart button control are not working, check the following in order.

The app features require a paid plan. Development stores also need a paid plan for testing.

For pricing, see About pricing plans.

In the theme editor, under App embeds, enable "RuffRuff Selling Periods."

For the steps, see Initial Setup.

If the rule status is Disabled, it is not reflected in the store even after you apply it to products. Enable it and save.

Product preview and the theme editor show the state from when they were opened. Refreshing the browser after you change settings does not update the preview. Check the live online store.

Check that a selling period rule is applied to the product or variant.

For how to apply a rule, see Apply / Remove rules from products.

Start and end date and time are interpreted in the time zone under Shopify admin → Settings → General.

For example, if the store time zone is US Eastern Time and you enter "2027-01-01 00:00," that time is Eastern Time. To start at 00:00 Japan time, set the time zone to "(GMT+09:00) Osaka, Sapporo, Tokyo," then check the rule dates.

Note: Changing the store time zone later does not convert dates on rules that are already saved.

Because of Shopify caching, updates can take time to appear. Wait, then reload the online store.

If the product cannot be sold because it is out of stock, cart button control from this app does not run. Add inventory, or enable "Continue selling when out of stock."

If the theme hides the cart button and shows Sold out when inventory is 0, this app cannot find where to insert the product message. If the rule is enabled, checkout blocking still runs.

If the theme can keep the cart button visible when sold out, the app can control the button outside the selling period and show the message.

This app finds the cart button on a standard add-to-cart form. Control may not work if the implementation does not include the following.

  • An add-to-cart form whose method is post and whose action ends with /cart/add

  • A submit button inside the form

  • The variant ID in a field named id

A submit button outside the form, or a bulk-add items[0][id] field, is not supported.

Do not disable or delete this app's checkout rule from Shopify admin. To stop a selling period rule, disable or delete it from the app.

Cart button control and product messages apply to the online store only. They do not apply to sales channels such as the Shop app or Instagram.

Checkout order blocking applies to orders that go to standard checkout.

By Shopify's specification, you can enable up to 25 checkout rules for the whole store, including rules from other apps. If you exceed the limit, you cannot enable a selling period rule. Disable unused checkout rules, then enable the selling period rule again.
