RuffRuff Selling Periods

How selling period control works and its scope

Display control versus order blocking at checkout

RuffRuff Selling Periods controls selling periods in two ways: storefront display control and order blocking at checkout. Their roles and scope are different.

Through the theme app embed, the app switches the following on online store product pages and similar screens.

  • Hide or disable the cart button

  • Show product messages and the countdown timer

Outside the selling period, you can hide the cart button (default) or disable it. Dynamic checkout buttons such as Buy it now are hidden outside the selling period in either case.

Limitation: This display control applies to the online store only. It does not run on other sales channels such as the Shop app or social media.

Using Shopify Cart and Checkout Validation, the app blocks checkout when the order includes a product that is outside its selling period, and shows an alert message.

What order blocking covers, and what it does not, is as follows.

  • Orders are blocked when the customer goes to checkout. Adding to the cart is not blocked

  • The target is standard checkout on the online store

  • Draft orders in Shopify admin and orders created through the API are not covered

  • With payment methods that finish on an external page, such as convenience store payment, an order can go through if the customer chooses the method during the selling period and completes it on the external page after the period ends

  • If Shopify has an outage, the block may not run

  • You can enable up to 25 checkout rules for the whole store, including rules from other apps

Prerequisite: Every feature requires a paid plan.

Prerequisite: Storefront display control requires the theme app embed to be enabled.

Start and end date and time are based on the time zone under Shopify admin → Settings → General.

Note: Changing the store time zone after you save a rule does not convert the dates on existing rules.
